My in-box is normally full of emails. I'm very happy when I can see them all on one screen and this is a rare event. When I have a cull, I realise that mostly emails are from subscriptions that I have wittingly or unwittingly signed up to - a bit like this Blog if it is appearing in your own in-box.
Last week, I clicked on one of my favourites - the one I try to read even if I delete everything else. It was from Loyola Press, a Jesuit Ministry. I receive a daily thought of the day - always short and often spot in terms of something that I need to pay attention to.
Last week, I received an invitation to spend 31 days with St Ignatius a month long celebration of Ignatian Spirituality. I've used the daily readings as a refresh for my spiritual practice and have enjoyed each topic so far.
The one I loved most of all this week was A Thin Place at the Library by Peggy Weber. As it is school holidays here, and as we enjoyed time with our grandkids this weekend, it was a special reminder to look for God in the small, often missed, moments of life. Also people have often described The Cliffs as a 'thin place' and often it seems that way to us.
Another good reminder was Three Reasons It’s Hard to Be Still by Vinita Hampton Wright. This article spoke to something I hear often from guests who are contemplating a retreat. "I'm not sure how I will go with myself in silence for three days." I always try and encourage people to give it a go. We are here, on-site and offer accompaniment for retreats if it gets too hard, and I have rarely found that time alone in silence is not fruitful.
If you are not sure about coming on a retreat, give us a call for a chat and we can see how we can support you in a time of stillness at The Cliffs.
